Both editions share the same GPS brain and hidden latch mechanism. The difference is in how they look and feel in your hands.

Heirloom Hardwood Edition: Each box is hand-veneered with thick, shop-sawn hardwood — 1/16″ faces and 1/8″ matching edge banding, bonded to a precision 3D-printed core for perfect fit and long-term stability. Mother of pearl inlay accents. Brass knob. Grain-matched corners. Hand-rubbed danish oil finish. This is the one you pass down.

Modern Black & Gold Edition: A sleek, fully 3D-printed body in matte black with a thin gold accent band. Solid, durable, and surprisingly luxurious in person. Same mechanism, more accessible price.

Why Veneer?

Solid wood is beautiful, but it moves with the seasons — expanding and contracting as humidity changes. That's fine for a cutting board, but not for a precision mechanism that needs to stay true.

Thick, shop-sawn veneer gives you the real look and tactile warmth of solid hardwood without the seasonal movement. The 3D-printed core holds tolerances tight, so the latch stays aligned and the drawer action stays smooth year after year.

Why No App?

Apps get abandoned. Bluetooth protocols change. Companies disappear and take their servers with them.

We wanted to build something that would still work in 20 years — something worthy of being passed down. So we made the ProxBox completely self-contained. It doesn't need our servers. It doesn't need the internet. It doesn't need us.

If Truest North Compass closes up shop tomorrow, your ProxBox keeps working. We even open-sourced the reprogramming tool, so you'll always be able to change the destination yourself.

That's what makes it a modern heirloom.
