A Box That Opens When You Get There
Set a destination. Make the journey. Watch the drawer pop open when you arrive.
The ProxBox is a location-locked keepsake — a handcrafted box that stays sealed until the GPS coordinates line up. Inside, whatever secret you choose to hide.
Built to be passed down. No apps, no Bluetooth, no accounts. Just place, compass, and a beautifully engineered mechanism.
Choose Your Edition
Both editions share the same GPS brain and hidden latch mechanism. The difference is in how they look and feel in your hands.
Heirloom Hardwood Edition: Each box is hand-veneered with thick, shop-sawn hardwood — 1/16″ faces and 1/8″ matching edge banding, bonded to a precision 3D-printed core for perfect fit and long-term stability. Mother of pearl inlay accents. Brass knob. Grain-matched corners. Hand-rubbed danish oil finish. This is the one you pass down.
Modern Black & Gold Edition: A sleek, fully 3D-printed body in matte black with a thin gold accent band. Solid, durable, and surprisingly luxurious in person. Same mechanism, more accessible price.
Features:
Location-Locked: The drawer stays latched until the box reaches your chosen coordinates. No cheating, no peeking — the GPS has to agree.
Truest North Compass on Top: The compass points the way to your destination. Direction and distance, right there on the lid.
Secret Inside the Secret: A small hidden compartment inside the main drawer gives you one more reveal. Ring box? Love note? Treasure map to the next clue? Your call.
StrobeCode Reprogramming: Change the destination anytime using just your phone screen — no app, no Bluetooth, no pairing. About 10 seconds, done. Your grandmother could do it. See how it works.
USB-C Rechargeable: Built-in battery, standard cable. No coin cells to hunt down, no tiny screws. Just plug in between adventures.
Offline, Always: No Wi-Fi. No cellular. No servers to shut down. This box works forever. Our Promise.
Why Veneer?
Solid wood is beautiful, but it moves with the seasons — expanding and contracting as humidity changes. That's fine for a cutting board, but not for a precision mechanism that needs to stay true.
Thick, shop-sawn veneer gives you the real look and tactile warmth of solid hardwood without the seasonal movement. The 3D-printed core holds tolerances tight, so the latch stays aligned and the drawer action stays smooth year after year.
Why No App?
Apps get abandoned. Bluetooth protocols change. Companies disappear and take their servers with them.
We wanted to build something that would still work in 20 years — something worthy of being passed down. So we made the ProxBox completely self-contained. It doesn't need our servers. It doesn't need the internet. It doesn't need us.
If Truest North Compass closes up shop tomorrow, your ProxBox keeps working. We even open-sourced the reprogramming tool, so you'll always be able to change the destination yourself.
That's what makes it a modern heirloom.
What to Hide Inside
A ring. A letter. A key. Coordinates to the next adventure. The deed to a house. A tiny bottle of sand from where you met. Whatever you choose, the ProxBox keeps it sealed until the coordinates and your story align.
Handmade in Buffalo
Every ProxBox is assembled by hand in our workshop, tested before it ships, and generally ships within 7-10 business days. Questions? We answer our own emails.
The Truest North Compass always guides you back to a meaningful place. From epic mountaintops to quiet corners of the heart, it remembers what matters. Durable, rechargeable, GPS-enabled, and reprogrammable with just your screen—this is more than navigation. It’s connection, crafted in maple and brass.
Your Direction. Your Destination. Always.
Unlike ordinary compasses, this one points where you decide. Reprogram any time with your phone—no app needed. Built with real GPS, premium materials, and a 100-day battery, it tracks direction and distance to any special location. It’s a compass for memories, milestones, and moments that matter.
Really enjoying our box! We've already used it for a couple date nights.

The ProxBox is truly unique and unmatched in the market
The ProxBox is truly unique and unmatched in the market. It works exactly as described and is even more impressive in person. Upon activation, it is super exciting to turn on and watch the compass and distances calibrate. Not to mention also being extremely accurate.
This isn't just for couples! - The device makes a great treasure hunt for kids or adults, and is endlessly reusable. It forces exploration to places known and unknown, and creates a great bond around a shared experience.
Creative ideas for the ProxBox include adult Treasure Hunts, Team Building Exercises for work events, Reuniting Old Friends with a shared meeting place, an added layer to any Birthday or Holiday gift (Ex: a parent or relative could hide money in the box and send the kids on a journey to gain access to the contents), or even as a Posthumous Gift from a loved one who has moved on but wants to leave a final message or memory (heck - even the Will could be hidden in the box). The options are endless.
With the ProxBox - both the Journey AND the Destination are enjoyed. Choose your own adventure!

Best 40th Birthday Present
I bought the Pro Box for my wife’s 40th birthday to hide some jewelry in. We had a tripped planned to the mountains in North Carolina, so I set it to open there. I was blown away by the quality of the compass. Karl was also awesome to work with. Our relationship got started on a celestial theme, and I really wanted the Sun, Moon, and Stars faceplate on the Pro Box, but that wasn’t an option. I emailed Karl and he made it happen.
My wife also loved it. I don’t think I’ll ever find a better gift than this. It was so satisfying to pull in the driveway of our mountain cabin and watch my wife’s face light up when the drawer opened.
(Also, the video of him being inspired by the Beacons of Gondor as a way to re-program the compass was great, huge LOTR fan)

Truly Worthwhile
Beautiful craftsmanship that fills me with fondness every time I look to it nestled on the bookshelf. Traveling gets a touch of whimsy watching the next destination draw nearer, while on the back the spiral of coordinates grows as we write down our favorite spot each trip. It is a symbol and a story, brilliant engineering and a work of art.

Quality over quantity
One thing I didn’t realize before ordering this that made it even better than five stars was the amount of individual care that goes into each one. These aren’t mass produced and made one by one in a studio, which I think really increases the quality of what’s put into it. When you hold onto the compass, it feels very well-made and it’s very easy to figure out. Thank you so much for putting this together and look forward to using this in the future.

Military memory lane for our anniversary
This is the perfect gift for a dual military couple who have been to so many memorable places. We can set the coordinates to a specific location that has special meaning to us and take a trip down memory lane. What a great way to relive these moments on our 20 year anniversary.

Compass is really cool, seems to work as it should. Looks great in person.
Knocking off a star because one of the screws inside the faceplate was out and rattling around inside the compass. I had to remove the faceplate and screw it back in. Not a big deal, but quality control could use another look.
